Decorative lettering is a great way to emphasize accents in a room or play up a theme. You can choose a particular object such as a painting and make it a focal interest point by placing decorative lettering and art around it. One example of this is a photo wall, where you put a selection of photographs together to create a montage, and then spice it up with a quote that matches the photo frames and in addition, verbalizes the sentiments of the photographs. Or, if your room has a specific color or decoration theme, you can choose an element and have your lettering and art carry that theme to create the effect of customized decoration.
That is what we did with this child’s room. Emma’s bedroom has a spring flowers theme, and is done in eggshell yellow for the walls, with red and olive green as color accents. On the hanging shelf above Emma’s bed is a painting of spring flowers that had served as the inspiration for the room’s theme. Different flowers were hand painted on the wall throughout the room, a pale red tulip among them.
We placed the quote “Sweet Dreams, Emma” above the bed, under the shelf, and to achieve a dainty effect we chose the Decorative Lettering Style Imperial (General category), in Burgundy at 4 inches height. To further carry the theme we placed another quote, “A dream is a wish your heart makes”, on the soffit above the window seat. The second quote uses the same font and color as the first one. On each end of this quote we placed the Tulip-Top-Lettering-Art-2-3. We love the final look, and anyone looking at the decorative lettering and art will think that it was hand painted just like the rest of the wall accents.
The result is a great wall embellishment that blends in perfectly with the rest of the room. When Emma grows up, gets tired of the quote and decides that she wants something more mature, it will be easy to peel off the decorative lettering and art from the wall and replace it with a different quote of her choice. In other words, the decorative lettering can evolve with your children’s age and preferences.
